CodeCritters: free block-coding puzzles that teach real logic
CodeCritters teaches the foundations of programming without a single line of typed code. Kids guide a friendly critter to its flag by building programs from visual blocks, working up from simple sequences to loops, conditionals, and functions. It's free, with no ads and no tracking of your kids.
What kids learn
- Sequencing — putting commands in the right order to trace a path
- Loops — replacing repeated steps with a single Repeat block
- Nested loops — a loop inside a loop
- Conditionals — If and If-Else that sense the tile ahead and branch
- Functions — defining a mini-program once and calling it again and again
- Debugging and efficiency — fixing broken programs and solving in the fewest blocks
How it works
Kids tap command blocks — Move, Turn, Jump, Grab, Repeat, If, and Define — to build a program, with no typing or syntax to memorize. Pressing Run animates the critter stepping through the code to reach the flag and collect every gem. Solving with fewer blocks earns more stars, so kids learn to write tidy, efficient programs.
A grown-up signs in once and adds a player for each kid, so CodeCritters's stars and progress save to your account and follow you to any device.
